Emotional Eating

Are you Emotional Eating?

As a young child, I was skinny.  As I grew older I found myself always having problems with my weight, I was Emotional Eating. The doctors didn’t call it that years ago but that is what it was.

As I grew into adulthood I found that my weight continued to go up and down, if I was overwhelmed or stressed I would snack on anything that I could find.

Now that I am older I have found that emotional eating goes right along with taking better care of yourself.

Dr. Melissa McCreery in her article 25 Simple Ways to Take Better Care of Yourself — Instead of Emotional Eating” says this, “When you are busy or overwhelmed, it can be a challenge to squeeze in quality self-care and way too easy to resort to emotional eating instead.”

I have found that even though it is harder to lose weight as you get older, I do not just reach for another bag of chips every time I am overwhelmed or busy.

Dr. McCreery goes on in her article to list ways to take better care of yourself. Such as:

  1. Learn to say no with ease and grace.
  2. Make an effort to get outside every day.
  3. Stop and stretch once an hour.
  4. Drink your water.

  1. Hello! I seem to do the opposite of emotional eating. When I’m super busy or stressed I skip meals. Going outside is the best way for me to relax quickly. Nature is such great medicine!

    • Nature is the best medicine! Good for you on not overeating. I wish I could do that.
